Ausbright specialises in providing expert maritime electrical services and engineering solutions for the Defence Industry.

With more than 18 years of experience, Ausbright proudly represents an Australian Sovereign Capability in the Maritime Sector, while maintaining an unwavering commitment to safety and best practice. 

Capability Statement

Ausbright’s core capability is delivering safe, quality, maritime electrical and engineering solutions for the Defence Industry. Ausbright is an Australian Sovereign Capability, in operation for over 18 years.

Our experienced team has extensive knowledge of the maritime landscape including sustainment, platform upgrades, equipment fault finding and repair. Our core team comprises of 20 experienced, qualified, marine electricians. They are supported by an in-house engineering consultancy comprised of marine and electrical engineers.

We are a full-service company and can deliver electrical solutions from Conceptual Designs, Feasibility Studies and Project Design through to Installation, Set to work and Requirement Verification. We service our clients either via direct engagement, as prime contractors or working as third-party sub-contractors.

Safety is our passion, and we work hard to ensure the Navy’s people are always safe at sea. We hold ISO 9001 and 45001 certificates and have consistently maintained gold level accreditation as a member of Master Electricians Australia. All our staff maintain First Aid, CPR and Low Voltage Rescue qualifications as well as other high risk work licences and qualifications required to deliver service levels that exceed our clients’ expectations. Our staff also hold AGSVA Security Clearances to ensure our clients’ security interests are maintained.

As a well-resourced, bi-coastal team, we have the capability to conduct concurrent projects across the country, along with the mobility to provide urgent defect (URDEF) rectification and support to the Fleet while deployed under Government directives.

As a veteran run business, we are proud to support Veterans Employment and many of our staff are ex-service men and women.

Locations

New South Wales
Our head office and workshop is located in Banksmeadow NSW, which is a 15 minute drive from Fleet Base East. A site office is located on Fleet Base East in the Dock Operating Area which enables fast response times. Our workshop facilities are used to conduct tasks requiring off-site maintenance.

Western Australia
Ausbright’s WA office is located in Naval Base, WA, which is a 5 minute drive from the Australian Maritime Centre Common Use Facility. We also have a mobile site trailer used for project work.

All staff hold access passes for HMAS Stirling - Garden Island, AMC CUF, Henderson and other ports as operationally required by Navy or our other customers.

Deployable Services
Ausbright can deploy staff to assist in URDEF or operational defect issues at short notice across Australia or overseas.

Core Capabilities

Marine electricians with experience in

  • Switchboard servicing; clean, inspect, switchgear test, upgrades.

  • Power generation; maintenance, testing, load bank trials.

  • Cable installation and termination.

  • Fibre optic installation termination, testing, repair.

  • Milspec Connector termination.

  • Sensor calibration and verification.

Marine Platform Engineers

  • Electrical platform integration, cable selection, cable routing.

  • Electrical load analysis.

  • Control system design.

  • Electrical Distribution design.

  • Lighting plans.

  • Sites in Sydney and Perth, and elsewhere as required to support our customers.

  • Mobilisation and support of URDEF rectification.

  • Critical Risk Management (CRM) - Electrical. Review of system isolations and verification of test for dead.

  • Electrical equipment fault diagnosis and repair on Defence and commercial platforms and shore facilities (degaussing systems, power generation systems, control and monitoring systems, propulsion engines, purification systems, cranes and lifts, lighting systems and sewage systems).

  • Routine maintenance activities across maritime platforms and shore facilities.

  • Temporary power site set up and maintenance.

  • Ability to engage with mandated OEM and Authorised Repair Agents to provide support to Defence capabilities and meet tasking requirements.

  • Electrical support to sub-contractors.

  • Level I and II Thermography imagery and reporting.

  • Export control knowledge and understanding.

  • Defence Supply Chain knowledge and understanding.

Licences, Training, Qualification & Certifications

High Risk Work Licences

Confined Space, Issue Permits, Height Safety Supervisor and Work Safely at Heights, High Voltage Switching and Coordination and Elevated Work Platform.

Other Qualifications

Level I and II Thermography qualifications, First Aid, CPR and Low Voltage Rescue, Electrical Equipment for Hazardous Areas training.

Future Capability Developments

Ausbright is looking to expand our capabilities to align with Plan Galileo and the Regional Maintenance Centre model and would like to pursue opportunities in shipbuilding and acquisition projects.

Ausbright is currently undertaking a corporate uplift program with funding approved through the Office of Defence Industry Capability. As part of this process, we are implementing a Risk Management Framework and have successfully uplifted our Integrated Management System to include ISO45001:2018.

Significant investment in our employees continual professional development is ongoing with sponsorship of Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree, senior team members completing a leadership development program, Graduate Diplomas in Project Management, Certificate IV in Work Health Safety, Internal Auditor training, Supervison training for emerging leaders.

Some of the highly complex and critical projects completed by Ausbright include:

  • HMAS Adelaide URDEF – Total Power Failure – Operation Tonga Assist 22

  • HMAS Choules Midlife Refit SEA3030-2 – Major cable removal and replacement (over 300 cables installed totalling over 10,000m of various types), switchboard bus modifications, circuit breaker installation and motor starter installation.

  • HMAS Choules Thermography – Full ship survey of LV Switchboards and motor starters completed at sea. This included over 230 boards whilst maintaining ship’s normal operating conditions.

  • ANZAC Class vessels SEA1442 –Upgrades to communication centre racking, Milspec and fibre cabling. Executed in partnership with Leonardo Australia

  • HMAS Canberra URDEF – UPS System Condition Assessment

  • HMAS Canberra / HMAS Adelaide – Critical Risk Management and LSZH Cable Replacement

  • HMAS Hobart / HMAS Brisbane – AIR 9000 installation and boat davit upgrade

  • HMAS Ballarat – Machinery Space Communications Installation
